OFFICIAL BIO / SARAH VAUTOUR

American soprano Sarah Vautour’s 2023-24 season includes role and house debuts as Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann with Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and as Bess (cover) in Breaking the Waves with Detroit Opera, as well as performances of Carmina Burana with Memphis Symphony and Northwest Florida Symphony.

American soprano Sarah Vautour’s 2023-24 season includes role and house debuts as Giulietta in Les contes d’Hoffmann with Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and as Bess (cover) in Breaking the Waves with Detroit Opera, as well as performances of Carmina Burana with Memphis Symphony and Northwest Florida Symphony.

She made her European debut in the 2021-22 season, singing both the roles of Tebaldo and Il voce dal cielo in Don Carlo with Theater Bonn. She also returned to the Aspen Music Festival as a member of the inaugural Renee Fleming Young Artist class at the invitation of Fleming and Patrick Summers, where she sang the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte.
 

In the 2022-23 season, Ms. Vautour joined the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic as a soloist in a series of concerts entitled Walzerträume, was heard as the soprano soloist in Carmina Burana with the Amarillo Symphony, and premiered the Liederabend “Not Your Body” with pianist Justine Eckhaut in two concerts in Berlin. Additional recent performances include her Opera Santa Barbara debut as Beatrice in Daniel Catán’s Il postino.
 

Ms. Vautour is a graduate of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at Los Angeles Opera, where she made her company debut as the Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hänsel and Gretel under the baton of Maestro James Conlon, was heard as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, and was scheduled to perform as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro. Ms. Vautour’s assignments as a Young Artist with the Los Angeles Opera during the 2018-19 season included covering both the Celestial Voice in Verdi's Don Carlos and Gretel in Hänsel and Gretel and appearing as Zipporah/ Voice of God in the world premiere of Henry Mollicone’s Moses.
 

She joined LA Opera following a summer as an Apprentice Artist at Des Moines Metro Opera, where she covered Adele in Johann Strauss Jr.’s Die Fledermaus. She has also performed with Teatro Nuovo for their summer season as a Resident Artist where she was heard in Rossini’s Stabat Mater and covered the title role in Bellini’s La straniera. Additionally, she made her Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra debut as the soprano soloist in Mahler’s Das klagende Lied with the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus and Maestro James Conlon. Ms. Vautour made her Aspen Music Festival debut in the role of Mozart and Donna Anna in Stephen Stucky’s The Classical Style, under the baton of Maestro Robert Spano.
 

Ms. Vautour earned her Master of Music from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music from University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. Notable performances include the title role in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Morgana in Handel’s Alcina with CCM Opera d’arte, as well as Rose Maurrant in Street Scene with Harrower Summer Opera Workshop. On the concert stage, she appeared as soloist in the Poulenc Gloria under the baton of Maestro Thomas Jaber and in Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Houston Masterworks Chorus.
